This conference is the seventeenth in a series of
Conferences in Banach algebras that started in 1974 at Los Angeles. The
most recent meetings were the conferences at Blauberen (1997), Pomona
(1999), Odense (2001) and Edmonton (2003).
We expect that most specialists in Banach algebras
as well as leading mathematicians from related areas will attend this
conference. In the past, these conferences have always led to fruitful
interactions between the participants, and we expect this tradition to
continue.
There will be particular emphasis on the following
topics
1.Radical Banach Algebras and automatic continuity
2. K-theory
for Banach and locally convex algebras
3. Operator spaces
4. Banach algebras and Operator theory
5. Topological Homology
6. Banach Algebras and Harmonic Analysis
7. Non commutative Lp-spaces
8. Hankel and Toeplitz operators
This series of conferences will in particular provide an
opportunity to review recent developments of noncommutative analysis
(noncommutative
Lp-spaces defined from general
von Neumann algebras, noncommutative Hardy spaces, noncommutative
Grothendieck's inequality of Pisier-Schliatenko, Shilov boundary of
operator spaces) by encouraging contacts between "commutative"
mathematicians (specialists of function theory and operator theory) and
"noncommutative" mathematicians working on operator spaces, operator
algebras and noncommutative probability. Plenary conferences of 1h30 will present a survey of the state of the art on
strategic topics. There will also be invited talks of 50 mn, and short
talks of 25 mn organized in parallel sessions. Young mathematicians
are particularly encouraged to submit an abstract.
A tentative list of plenary speakers includes
