Bordeaux

Bordeaux is famous as the capital of the world's most prominent wine-producing region. But Bordeaux is also an important historical center, and simply a beautiful and lively city. The Bordeaux old town was granted the UNESCO World Heritage status as an ``outstanding urban and architectural ensemble''. See the wikipedia page and the Tourism Office site for more information.

The University of Bordeaux was founded in 1441. In 1893-97 Jacques Hadamard worked in Bordeaux. During his tenure here, he proved the Prime Number Theorem (1896), the Hadamard Matrix Inequality (1893), and the Three Circles Theorem (1896). Today Bordeaux is home for four universities.
