Oceanic surface waves induce on average a net transport of water parcels, named Stokes drift. This drift has an important impact on the global transport of ocean tracers (temperature, CO2, pollutants) and on the turbulence at the ocean surface. In this talk, we will review the geometric derivation of this mean transport, exact and approximated models of wave-averaged fluids and linear solutions for Stokes drift. Then, we will expose emerging challenges regarding the computation of Stokes drift for non-linear and breaking wave-fields. Finally, issues regarding three-way coupling of atmosphere-waves-ocean models will be briefly discussed.
