In a recent article published in Inventiones mathematicae, Pierre Berger, Nicolas Gourmelon (IMB, University of Bordeaux) and Mathieu Helfter have solved a 50-year-old problem by demonstrating that any smooth dynamics can be obtained by perturbing the identity, up to a change in time and space scales.
