The institute of Mathematics of Bordeaux (IMB) is a joint research unit (UMR 5251) of the CNRS, University of Bordeaux and Bordeaux INP.
As one of the two host laboratories for the Doctoral School of Mathematics and Computer Science, the IMB brings together most of the mathematics research conducted in Bordeaux.
The institute of Mathematics of Bordeaux is spread across three sites: in building A33 on the Talence campus of the University of Bordeaux, in the Inria Center at the University of Bordeaux and on the premises of IHU Liryc at the Xavier Arnozan Hospital (Pessac).
The IMB participates in the TransMath Cross-Border Cooperation Laboratory with the Basque Center for Applied Mathematics, the University of the Basque Country, and Tecnalia. The IMB is also involved in the France-South Korea International Research Network (FKmathIRN).
For their teaching duties, IMB members are assigned to the following affiliated institutions:
Research teams
Team leader : Marius Tucsnak
Team leader : Raphaël Loubère
Team leader : Laurent Michel

The IMB is heavily involved in software development, specifically in number theory, scientific computing, imaging, and optimization.
Points of Contact : Damien Robert
Valorization activities at IMB involve the interaction between mathematics research and all sectors of society.
Points of Contact : Laurent Facq, Raphaël Loubère
Information on post-doctoral career paths and presentation of the mentoring programme, aimed at fostering the professional development and fulfilment of administrative and scientific staff.
Points of Contact : Nicolas Papadakis, Lisl Weynans
The Bordeaux Institute of Mathematics aims for high levels of openness toward society. It places great importance on the outreach of all its research themes and exchanges with all audiences.
Points of Contact : Razvan Barbulescu, Dajano Tossici
Since 2019, a group is working at IMB to **reduce the environmental impact** of the lab's activities (building, consumables, computing, travels...) and to raise awareness and communicate on this subject.
Points of Contact : Pierre Mounoud
The aim of the initiative is to identify instances within the laboratory where gender equality, diversity or equity are not being adequately addressed, and to raise awareness and communicate on this issue at various levels.
