PhD Position in Numerical Analysis — HoCo Project
1 PhD student · Numerical analysis, PDEs and high-order numerical methods · 3 years · Starting September 1, 2027
A three-year full-time PhD position is available within the HoCo project (ANR-25-CE40-3980-01), coordinated by Wasilij Barsukow (CNRS) at the Institut de Mathématiques de Bordeaux (IMB). The project focuses on the development of structure-preserving high-order numerical methods for hyperbolic systems of conservation laws, with particular interest in compact and multidimensional methods capable of preserving certain fundamental properties of solutions while handling discontinuities and shocks. The work will combine theoretical analysis, numerical method development, and computational implementation. A Master’s degree in applied mathematics or a related field, together with a strong background in numerical analysis, is required. Experience with finite element or finite volume methods and/or scientific computing is an advantage. The position is based at the Institut de Mathématiques de Bordeaux, Talence campus, in an international research environment, with opportunities to attend conferences and develop international scientific collaborations.
Application: CV, Master’s transcripts, a short description of experience in numerical analysis and programming, and the contact details of an academic reference should be sent to Wasilij Barsukow — wasilij.barsukow@math.u-bordeaux.fr. The position is open until filled.
